Winter Varsity 2016
On January 1st, eight coaches full of excited students left Sheffield to take on The Alps. Around 600 students from both Universities were ready to compete and spectate at Winter Varsity 2016, the annual competition between The University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University.
This year marked the third Ashes to Alps event, giving both Universities the chance to secure the first valuable Varsity points ahead of the continued competition in March and April. The two day Winter Varsity competition included The Ashes to Alps Trophy and the Winter Varsity competition.
The competitions took place over two days, with the ski and snowboarding racing on the first day, and the freestyle events scheduled on the second. The first day saw The University of Sheffield secure the point for the ski racing, but Sheffield Hallam University claimed an equalising point for the snowboard racing.
This left it all to play for on the second day, unfortunately the freestyle competition was unable to take place due to adverse weather conditions. The freestyle events will take place back in the UK (date to be confirmed), but in the meantime, scores remain level with each University having secured one point during their time abroad.
The next Varsity competition to take place is Boxing on March 9th in The Octagon. Stay up to date on all things Varsity via our social media, including when the tickets will be going on sale, and how you can get hold of yours.
