Varsity Boxing 2016
Varsity was off to a knock out start but left the overall competition even with half a point each from the boxing event. The atmosphere was very lively with over 1,000 students from both Universities cheering on their team, making it an enjoyable evening for both spectators and sportsmen.
With six bouts in total for the Varsity competition each University secured three wins resulting in a draw overall from this event. Which means the Varsity competition remains a tie with 1.5 points each, leaving it all to play for in the remaining fixtures.
Flic Wilbraham, Sports Officer at University of Sheffield Students’, reflected:
“What a fantastic evening! My first time at the Varsity Boxing event and it certainly lived up to the high expectations it had. Well done to all the Boxers who put on such a great show and thank you to everyone involved in the organisation of the night. Still all to play for with the two Universities still level on points (1.5-1.5). #BlackandGold.”
Sports Officer at Sheffield Hallam Students’ Union Sports Officer, Emily Wilkes, commented:
“I absolutely love the Varsity boxing match. It is such a great atmosphere with the crowd really getting behind the boxers. I am very proud of the students that took part, showing such passion and determination to bring that valuable point home for Team Hallam. A draw was a fair result on the night and it means things are even going into the main week of Varsity. Let’s go Hallam let’s go!”
