University of Sheffield crowned Varsity Champions for the fourth year running
This year’s Varsity competition has marked the twentieth year of Varsity, and what a competition it has been. It has been neck and neck throughout, with both Universities drawing on a number of days the competition has been tight. However, the overall score for this year’s competition was 42-35 with University of Sheffield retaining the title for the fourth year running.
A comment from University of Sheffield Students’ Union Sports Officer Flic Wilbraham; ‘I am so proud of everybody who has contributed to our fourth consecutive Varsity win over Hallam, including all the spectators for such fantastic support and belief in everyone. To lift that trophy, on the ice, in front of such a massive crowd was what I had been waiting for all year! I can’t tell you how tense this past week has been watching all your fixtures from the sideline, praying for victories. Huge shout out to all the supporters, athletes, organisers and media teams – one fab, winning Black and Gold team! Here’s to an even bigger Hallam smashing next year!’
A comment from Sheffield Hallam University Students’ Union Sports Officer Flic Wilbraham;
“Well done to the University of Sheffield on their fourth consecutive Varsity victory. Even though the result didn’t go our way in the end my heart is still bursting with pride at all of the players that took part, showing their true passion for their sport and their university. Varsity is a time when Team Hallam truly becomes one as all the clubs and teams pull together no matter what sport they are from to fight together, giving blood, sweat and tears for Team Hallam. It was also incredible to see so many spectators at all of the events this year, thank you for singing your hearts out and getting behind the teams. Thank you to everyone involved in the organisation and running of Varsity 2016 which in my opinion has been the biggest and best Varsity so far, what a way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the event. Thank you to the players of the University of Sheffield on some fantastic matches, bring on next year.”
