University of Sheffield take three points at Snowsports Varsity
Yesterday, Team Hallam and University of Sheffield battled it out on the slopes of the French Alps in an epic Snowsports Varsity day-long event. More than 600 supporters travelled out to Val Thorens to back their teams in a series of freestyle and slalom skiing and snowboarding fixtures.
The first 4 points of the annual Varsity competition were up for grabs, and after an epic day the results were in 3:1 to University of Sheffield. The freestyle ski race and snowboard race were worth one point each and the final 2 points awarded on a dual team slalom course.
Sarah Morse, University of Sheffield Sports Officer, said: βIt was great to see so many students get involved, no matter their level. The end result was one we can all be proud of. I’m pleased to say that by the end of the day, there was almost a clean sweep of University of Sheffield winners on the podiums and we are taking 3 points back home to Sheffield with us.β
Harry Preston, Team Hallam Sports Officer, said: βI was proud of our guys today, they showed amazing determination – some unreal skills were on show. It was an amazing event to be part of and so many students got the opportunity to participate! Although the result wasn’t as good as it could have been it was a great event to kick of Varsity 2019. Bring on March!β
